Release The Pressure – Part 1

One of the many nights we ran at The Asylum club over the years, Pressure Sound was also one of my favourites. Mainly inspired by the fact that I was working next door to (and spending most my lunchtimes in) Dub Vendor at the time, the night was a mix of dancehall, electronica, 2-step, booty bass and all points in between with some heavyweight guests from around the world (including the likes of The Bug, Milanese, DJ/Rupture, Ove-Naxx and Supersoul) taking control of the decks.

“Imagine a sound that captures the multifarious styles of music found in a city such as London, charges it with electro and adds pacey, heavyweight bass. Well Pressure Sound is it’s London home…” is how the Metro Newspaper described it in November of 2004 and who were we to argue.

And it was not just a damn fine night, as in typical Furthur style I got carried away at the prospect of possibly making a whole 30 or 40 pounds on the door and commissioned a series of mixes to be pressed on to CD and given away at the club.

The first mix came courtesy of one of our more regular guests over the years, Sun Ov. Originally one half of bootleg pioneers Frenchbloke and Son, Sun Ov went on to build a name for himself as a solo artist (as DrumCircleShit) and currently records glacial noisecore as one half of Regolith for the mighty fine Uncharted Audio record label when he’s not behind the decks at our parties bailing me out of trouble after I’ve had 5 too many and cant tell my arse from my elbow.

Anyway the mix is a righteously noisy blend of dancehall, jungle and electronica and has easily stood the test of time. In fact the kind of electro ragga assault we had in mind in 2004 is probably more popular today than ever and so for the sake of future generations we present it here in all it’s glory.
