Grovesnor: All Nite Long

More genius electro pop, this time from sometime Hot Chip collaborator Grovesnor. The solo project of Rob Smoughton, drummer with the Naciente Quartet, Grovesnor’s smooth electro-soul workouts have been clocking up some serious time on the Hot Sauce stereo ever since we got his self released Metrosexual album last year.

In fact we were so blown away when we saw him supporting Hot Chip last year at The Luminaire that we fired off an email to him the next day asking if we could at some point release some of his stuff. In the end we were beaten to the draw by Hi-Beat Records, but our loss is music’s gain as the two tracks on his debut 7″ Nightmoves and Wallflowers are the kind of genuine high concept pop that you long to hear in a taxi as you slump on the backseat at the end of the night.

If you consider the idea of ‘All Night Long’ era Lionel Richie trapped in a room with some drum machines and a laptop a good thing (and we do) then trust us you’ll love Grovesnor. The perfect soundtrack to a summer spent sailing up and down the Mediterranean in an oversized yacht.

Download: Grovesnor – The One

Grovesnor will be playing live at our 5th birthday party in May at the Macbeth in Hoxton.

Nitemoves / Wallflowers is available now on 7″ from Hi-Beat Records
Metrosexual is available direct from Grovesnor

saw the G smoothing it out in Cafe Bep, Amsterdam a month or so back….low slung soul vibes and high flying synth solos…the boy’s got some style
