Ok so the eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed that this place hasn’t see much action lately.
Anyway from now on I’m going to be posting all Hot Sauce kind of things over at Slutty Fringe instead and more italo/disco/balearic shenanigans over at The Last Days of Disco. So hopefully see you thurrr.

The best pumpkin I ever carved, shame it was actually about the size of a tennis ball.

It’s utterly terrifying how much of a blur the past ten years have been, thinking back to the mid nineties I seem to remember being vaguely optimistic about the state of this country, the world, music and even my own future. My how things change, anyway before I sink into a morbid state of depression and spend the rest of the afternoon listening to Sisters Of Mercy records it’s worth bearing in mind that it’s not all doom and gloom and not everyone wasted the past decade.
Evidence for this more optimistic take on life comes in the rather natty shape of Well Deep a new compilation celebrating 10 years of Big Dada that dropped through the letterbox today, from it’s humble origins as a spin off of Ninja Tune, the label has in my eyes (and ears) gone onto eclipse it’s big daddy releasing some of the best leftfield music of the past few years.
Over 2CDs (or DVD) and 31 tracks it charts the labels progress from it’s gritty UK origins and roster of homegrown operators such as Roots Manuva, New Flesh and the brilliantly off-the-wall Infinite Livez to it’s current global lineup that has introduced the wider world to the likes of Diplo, Spank Rock and TTC.
And because we liked it so much we pestered the label for a couple of copies to give away as prizes. To win a copy email us the answer to this question before Tuesday (22nd) Midday and we’ll randomly select a couple of winners from the right answers:
Q: Mike Ladd’s Infesticons were the arch enemies of which other fictional high-rolling group?
Whilst you’re at it check the debut album, Breaking Kayfabe from new signing Cadence Weapon as well, next level shit as kids in furry kangols are wont to say.

Here at Hot Sauce we love badges, they’re great, we’re also pretty keen on Mexican Wrestling and like to spend our evenings relaxing at home or down the local in one of our several Lucha masks. Of course some people consider the wearing of tight black rubber masks to be a little unsettling, our bank manager for instance, so combining our two loves Stem Design created these wonderful Hot Sauce pin badges that can be worn at all times even whilst entertaining the local parish priest.
If you want to get your filthy mitts on them head over to 50p Badges now where you can snaffle them up.

Everyone’s favourite Welsh psychonauts Super Furry Animals are back with a new album ‘Hey Venus’ and some of the most eye catching artwork I’ve seen for a while. I keep flipping between utter disgust and then really liking it, anyway what really matters is what’s between it’s garish psychedelic sleeve and if you’re a fan of the band that just don’t give a fuck then you should have nothing to complain about, though shorter and sharper than the last couple of albums, ‘Hey Venus’ is still a beautiful mess of psychedelic riffs, tropicalia-esque melodies and inspired prog nonsense, they’ve just managed to keep it tight enough to fit on one side of a c90.
If you want a taste of what’s to come, we have a couple of tracks to sample.
Download:
Super Furry Animals – ‘Battersey Odyssey’
Super Furry Animals – ‘Into The Night’
Super Furry Animals – ‘Run Away’
‘Hey Venus’ is released on Rough Trade on the 28th of August
‘Show Your Hand’ the single is available as a download, CD and 7″ picture disc on the 13th of August.

Basically what originally was going to be a couple of paragraphs about the weekend we’d just had turned in my sleep deprived state into an epic ramble that is probably of absolutely no interest to anyone, hell there’s not even an MP3 to leech at the end of it. So if you can be bothered to read about Hot Sauce’s adventures in a field read on, you have been warned…

As a teaser for the forthcoming album ‘Romance Ain’t Dead’ (out 17th Sept) his label have put up a track to download here. You have to jump through some hoops to get it but we reckon it’s worth it.
You can catch young Accers playing live next Thursday (9th August) at the Barfly in Camden alongside MC Devvo and the amazing Methodist Centre.

If you’ve wandered around the East End recently you’ll have probably noticed plenty of luridly coloured posters for The Ghost Frequency up and around. A quick google and I found the band here and thankfully they were worth that minimal effort. The general theme seems to be catchy synth driven disco punk with some jagged guitars thrown into the mix for good measure. So far, so Shoreditch but beneath that surface sheen I reckon there’s a fair bit more going on than with your usual bunch of tight trousered chancers.
As an added bonus they’ve got a pretty good handle on the visual side of things, the aforementioned posters were nicely done and their forthcoming 7″ single on City Rockers comes on lush red vinyl and with it’s own comic, illustrated by London based artist Jiro. There seems to be a fair bit of hype around these lads and for once it might be justified.
Anyway don’t take my word for it, you can check out the video to their debut single ‘Nightmare’ and make up your own mind.
